Learn from the Best: Matt Coffin of LowerMyBills

Mark Suster sat down with Matt Coffin, the founder of LowerMyBills, and got his take on corporate aspirations and strategy, PR, fundraising, M&A, and much more. Here’s a glimpse at Matt’s insights—but be sure to hit up the full story and watch the YouTube video.

Matt’s motto is “Be Everywhere.” He believes PR has to start at top of company, and has to be consistent and ongoing in order to build authentic relationships with journalists. “Make news,” Matt says, by mixing it up with different agencies, because sticking with the tried and true can lead to a dearth of creativity.

“Tell people what you’re going to do and over-deliver—people want to invest in people they trust. And if you make money for somebody they will trust you again.”

On Fundraising

Fundraising is just like building any other sort of relationship, and Matt suggests under-promising and over-delivering.

Also, raising money is not the be-all end-all some entrepreneurs think. Making money, becoming profitable, and selling a business are the end game.
