Overcoming Sales Call Phobia

Customers Sense Your Sales Calling Fear

Your organization may be losing sales due to ‘fear of calling.” One study cited by blogger Jonathan Farrington, suggests that 40% of established sales people have experienced a significant period of this sales killing phobia. Training can help, but one-on-one coaching is required to truly solve the issue.

Individual training will help salespeople to feel empowered, according to Farrington. The following survey statistics on “how customers regard sale people” should also help ease any feelings of sales inferiority. (Note the point in boldface. It is sure to make you smile.)

• Salespeople who do not make appointments: 45%

• Salespeople who know nothing about the customer’s business:  60%

• Salespeople who know little about their products and services: 60%

• Salespeople who call too often: 39%

Salespeople who do not call often enough: 49%

• Salespeople who do not have the authority to negotiate prices: 45%

• Salespeople who do not ask for the order: 40%

• Disorganized salespeople: 55%

Farrington also happily reports that the most desirable quality customers want to see in salespeople is Competence! For more on the survey, and on what it takes to overcome the fear of calling, be sure to read the full post.
