Central Desktop Releases Web Folders to Provide Local Access to Files in the Cloud

PASADENA, CA – Central Desktop, a leading provider of a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) social technology platform, today announced the availability of the new Central Desktop Web Folders feature. Web Folders extends the online collaboration software’s document management capabilities by introducing a new and easy way for Central Desktop users to manage files stored in the cloud. Web Folders allows users to conveniently interact with their Central Desktop files and folders directly from their local computers.

Web Folders uses WebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning) technology to map Central Desktop workspaces, files and folders as if they were a directory located on the user’s hard drive. This allows users to browse and navigate through their Central Desktop files the same way they are accustomed to managing files on their hard drives. With Web Folders, users can simply move their work files from their local computer to Central Desktop’s cloud by using familiar drag-and-drop functions.

Web Folders is also integrated into Central Desktop’s existing document management capabilities. When a file is opened for editing via Web Folders, it is automatically marked as “checked out” in Central Desktop so that other users know that the file is currently being edited. The document is then “checked in” when it is saved or closed and the new version is sent to Central Desktop.

“Our business relies on innovative technology solutions that are affordable, distributable and have true enterprise-level features. Central Desktop is one of the few vendors that falls in this category by offering key features like Web Folders as part of its collaboration solution,” said Chad Lancour, CEO of online retailer Helmet Camera Central. “The process of setting up Web Folders was so simple and now all of our mapped drive networking issues are solved. Our internal productivity is up, and the Central Desktop platform has been warmly embraced by our team.”

“As we continue to evolve our collaboration platform by introducing new features like Web Folders, we always keep in mind our ultimate goal of helping our customers work more productively and efficiently,” said Isaac Garcia, CEO and co-founder of Central Desktop. “Web Folders gives our customers the flexibility of being able to manage their work files either in the cloud or from their desktop. Central Desktop is the only online collaboration software that provides this functionality, securing our position as the most viable SharePoint alternative for the mid-market.”

Central Desktop Web Folders is now available free of charge to all Enterprise Edition customers. Company Plan and Community Edition customers have access to a read-only version of Web Folders. Web Folders is compatible with any operating system including Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X.
