eEye Digital Security Offers Vulnerability Assessment via SaaS Model

Irvine, CA – eEye Digital Security (www.eeye.com), an expert in integrated security and threat management solutions, today announced the availability of Retina OnDemand, which provides network security via the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model.

By using the SaaS model, Retina OnDemand simplifies the deployment process, which allows businesses to rapidly adopt the service to manage job-scheduling, reports, and results through REM, eEye’s centralized security management console for any size deployment small to large.

Using the SaaS model eliminates the need to configure and maintain servers, databases and software. Also referred to a hosted solution, SaaS is a software delivery method that provides access to software remotely as a Web-based service. Since SaaS pricing is based on a subscription fee, the model allows customers to access Retina OnDemand at a lower cost as compared to installing the software on-site as a licensed application. Due to the software’s remote hosting, businesses do not need to invest in additional hardware.

Retina OnDemand detects illegal traffic and fundamental flaws, and it recommends actions for remediation and mitigation. Utilizing advanced auditing techniques to non-intrusively determine if a host is vulnerable to exploits and data loss, the solution combines eEye’s Retina Network Security Scanner, Iris Network Traffic Analyzer and Blink Professional Host-based Intrusion Prevention solution into a single service that provides multi-platform network discovery and scalable vulnerability assessment for any size network environment.

Upon licensing Retina OnDemand, eEye Digital Security will install the required number of Retina 651 Security Management Appliances according to each customer’s needs. eEye configures the appliances so customers can simply log-on to a secure eEye Internet site to access the REM console and fully scan their environment, review results, generate reports and download information.

Research conducted by THINKstrategies and Cutter Consortium over the past three years has found rising interest and adoption of SaaS by corporate users. The most recent survey found that one third of respondents were using a SaaS application and another 37% were considering SaaS alternatives. Of those already using SaaS, over 90% were satisfied and planned to adopt additional SaaS solutions, and they would encourage their peers to adopt SaaS solutions. Of those considering SaaS, 80% planned to adopt a SaaS solution in 2008.*

“With Retina OnDemand, we have created a technology that can be plugged into any environment and managed via the Internet for a hands-free approach to vulnerability management and regulatory compliance,” said Morey Haber, VP of Business Development for eEye Digital Security. “This is a valuable service since many organizations add security only as an afterthought–when the risk of making front page news or violating regulatory compliance requirements interrupts business operations.”

Retina OnDemand is also ideal for enterprise organizations designing vulnerability management solutions that link regional office locations. This distributed service can be easily managed with the REM console to form a complete threat-management solution across multiple networks.

The Retina OnDemand network vulnerability assessment and tracking service thwarts network exploits and data loss attacks by analyzing specific pieces of operating systems, applications, and policies. The service also identifies high-risk host components and determines how cybercriminals could potentially leverage them for malicious activity.
