ExactTarget Named to Inc. 5000 List for Fourth Consecutive Year

INDIANAPOLIS – Inc. today ranked on-demand email and one-to-one marketing solutions provider ExactTarget 1,193 on its annual ranking of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in America.

ExactTarget earned the spot on this year’s list with a 266.6% growth in sales from 2005 to 2008, making 2009 the fourth consecutive year Inc. has featured ExactTarget on the list.

“Savvy trend spotters and those who invest in private companies know that the Inc. 5000 is the best place to find out about young companies that are achieving success through a wide variety of unprecedented business models, as well as older private companies that are still expanding at an impressive rate,” said Inc. 5000 project manager Jim Melloan. “That’s why our list is so eagerly anticipated every year.”

ExactTarget powers the email marketing and one-to-one marketing campaigns of organizations around the globe. The company’s software-as-a-service platform enables clients to send business-critical and event triggered emails , text messages , voice messages and landing pages to increase sales, optimize marketing investments and strengthen customer relationships. Founded and headquartered in Indianapolis, the company has posted 34 consecutive quarters of growth, 14 consecutive quarters of profitability and has grown from a startup to a 450-person international enterprise in less than nine years.

“Our consistent growth and innovation continues to provide marketers the most reliable and sophisticated platform to connect with their clients and drive real ROI,” said Scott Dorsey, ExactTarget’s chief executive officer and co-founder. “While I am incredibly proud of the ExactTarget team for their work to achieve four consecutive years on the list, the real credit goes to the tens of thousands of marketers who use our platform to drive business results. Without them, none of this would be possible.”

The 2009 Inc. 5,000 measures revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by the first week of 2005, and therefore able to show four full calendar years of sales. Additionally, they had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent-not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies-as of Dec. 31, 2008. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2005 is $200,000; the minimum for 2008 is $2 million.

The Inc. 5,000 placement comes less than a month after Microsoft named ExactTarget a finalist in the Software-plus-Services, Development Partner of the Year category of the 2009 Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference Awards. Already this year, ExactTarget has garnered recognition from organizations across the country including:

  • Industry Website ClickZ named ExactTarget the best email marketing platform in the industry
