GRC Roll-up: EMC Upgrades SourceOne, SharePoint Governance, Compliance

There’s quite a lot of interest in SharePoint this week with SharePoint-based compliance from NextDocs, compliance for those who are using SharePoint as an enterprise CMS from HiSoftware and a discussion on SharePoint governance from Symon Garfield.

EMC has also upgraded SourceOne e-Discovery Kazeon to v4.6, while Check Point has bought Dynasec.

NextDocs Offers SharePoint Compliance

NextDocs, which provides SharePoint-based compliance software solutions for life sciences industries, has announced a partnership with GimmalSoft to offer a content and records management solution for pharmaceutical, oil and gas industries.

Together, GimmalSoft and NextDocs solutions enables companies to work with a familiar software platform that increases their efficiency in finding, using and managing documents throughout their lifecycle, as required by governing bodies.

NextDocs’ solutions offer life sciences companies SharePoint-based document and quality Management software. NextDocs solutions simplify and automate business processes for organizations that need to comply with industry regulators such as the FDA and ISO.

Combined with GimmalSoft’s governance and records management solutions for the enterprise, organizations can provide centralized tracking and content management for critical business processes that adhere to records management policies.

As a result, the software provides regulated industries with a governed and managed content repository using Microsoft SharePoint.

HiSoftware’s Compliance, Security

There’s more good news for SharePoint users this week from HiSoftware. Use of SharePoint as an enterprise CMS platform has reached upward of 70%. The content compliance issues are huge, which makes the release of HiSoftware’s Security Sheriff SP and the upgrade of its compliance offering timely.

HiSoftware says it has addressed concerns by integrating its upgraded and new software with and within SharePoint 2010. This means that it audits data for compliance with privacy, information security, accessibility, site quality and brand integrity.

Within both sets of software there are checkpoints built into the proprietary rules engine for this, such as HIPAA and FISMA, and the capability to scan documents moving in and out of the environments to catch policy violations and reclassify offending content with the addition of new SharePoint metadata.

SharePoint Governance Strategy

If you didn’t see it earlier in the week, Symon Garfield of ICS solutions continues his series on SharePoint with a discussion around SharePoint governance. A robust SharePoint governance model should address three key elements:

  • Strategy
  • Business change
  • IT Operations

Strategy is concerned with the accountability for the SharePoint business case. It defines the scope of SharePoint’s use, links use to organizational objectives and defines success measures and the means by which they are monitored and reported.
