Hempsons Solicitors Optimises WAN Traffic with Exinda

Exinda, a global provider of WAN optimization solutions incorporating Unified Performance Management, today announced that Hempsons Solicitors, the largest specialist Health and Social Care legal practice in the UK, has deployed Exinda Unified Performance Management WAN optimization appliances to streamline Citrix application traffic flows and handle site-to-site data replication.

The solution has enabled Hempsons Solicitors to maintain high Citrix performance for its 270 employees whilst reducing data replication traffic by 70 percent among its offices in London, Manchester, Harrogate and Newcastle.

“We were replacing an outmoded packet shaping appliance and we wanted the flexibility to do WAN optimization while achieving greater visibility and control over our traffic,” said Brett Raymond, Head of IT at Hempsons Solicitors. “The Exinda appliances give us much more granular visibility, control, and reporting of applications and users on our WAN while optimizing site-to-site data replication traffic.”

Exinda partner NETprotocol deployed the Exinda 4060 series appliances for Hempsons solicitors and provides on-going management of the solution. The Exinda appliances made it possible to perform office-to-office data replication by significantly reducing WAN traffic during data replication operations. In fact, the bandwidth savings have been great enough that Hempsons Solicitors is considering adding more applications to its network.

“We have achieved over 200 percent performance increase in our data replication at peak throughput, with an average increase of approximately 70 percent. Our Citrix users continue to enjoy excellent application delivery performance, even with the additional high volume of data replication that was recently added to the WAN. We have achieved this without having to spend on additional bandwidth,” continued Raymond.
