Instructure Expands Partnerships to Advance Education Ecosystem

SALT LAKE CITY, June 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — At its annual user conference, InstructureCon 2014, Instructure today announced it has partnered with 20 new organizations in an ongoing effort to build a broad technology ecosystem for education. To date, Instructure has partnered with more than 100 organizations to create an open community of software applications using the Learning Tools Interoperability™ (LTI™) standard. LTI enables apps to integrate with a host of education technology platforms such as Instructure’s Canvas learning management system (LMS).

“Instructure is passionate about increasing a culture of technological openness in the educational community, so collaboration and innovation flow right where it occurs naturally — with teachers, students and administrators,” said Jared Stein, vice president of research and education for Instructure. “To this end, Instructure has led efforts to promote openness, such as creating the EduAppCenter as an open community for sharing and discovering 140+ educational apps. We specifically engineered this platform with open APIs to foster a culture of open access to the resources educators and students need.”

EduAppCenter, the largest, most open LMS app library for education, is Instructure’s public catalog of LTI integrations, where teachers and administrators can go to discover apps for use in their courses or accounts. These apps can be quickly installed inside Canvas through the Canvas App Center.

This open community, which hosts applications such as Khan Academy, McGraw-Hill, Twitter and Vimeo is the product of Instructure’s focus on building an ecosystem of innovation and education technology advancement that works for both K-12 and higher education courses.

Instructure currently supports three levels of partnerships: community, certified and premier. These partnerships allow companies to collaborate more seamlessly — together and with Instructure — to improve the educational experience. In addition to announcing 20 new partners, Instructure will feature a showcase of key technology innovations from 26 of its partnering organizations. Attendees of InstructureCon will have an opportunity to engage with these partners on Tuesday, June 17 from 2 – 5 p.m.

“Canvas continues to provide educators and students with an easy way to integrate our systems and work collaboratively with other applications,” said Kent Freeman, chief operating officer at VitalSource Technologies, Inc. “We share Instructure’s goal of encouraging innovation in education technology, and platforms such as Canvas allow our mutual customers to work together and expedite solutions to solve current and future challenges in education.”
