OCZ and SanDisk deliver MLC SSD devices
OCZ Technology Group Inc. and SanDisk Corp. each rolled out enterprise multi-level cell solid-state drive (MLC SSD) devices this week. OCZ launched its Deneva 2 6 Gbps SATA interface SSD while SanDisk added a 6 Gbps SAS model to its Lightning Enterprise Flash Drive (EFD) family.
The Deneva 2 drives, which use SandForce controllers, are available in 2.5-inch, 3.5-inch and 1.8-inch form factors. The new SanDisk EFD drives come in 100 GB, 200 GB and 400 GB capacities with single-level cell (SLC) NAND, and 200 GB, 400 GB and 800 GB MLC versions. SanDisk said Hewlett-Packard is using its drives for ProLiant servers.
HP hooks MSA into VMware vStorage APIs for Array Integration
Hewlett-Packard (HP) Co. added support for VMware vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI) to its HP P2000 G3 Modular Smart Array (MSA) entry-level/SMB storage system, The HP P2000 G3 MSA also supports HP Insight Control Storage Module Manager for VMware vCenter Server, allowing for storage management through the vCenter Server console.
Enhance unveils dual-active 10 GbE iSCSI SAN system
Enhance Technology Inc. released the UltraStor ES3160TG-D dual-controller 10 GbE iSCSI SAN storage system. The ES3160TG-D extends the dual-controller UltraStor ES line that currently offers solutions in Fibre Channel (FC-D), iSCSI (P4-D), SAS (SS-D) and Expansion Arrays (JS-D). ES3160TG-D uses a 6 Gbps SAS backplane, has a 1,200 MBps sustained data transfer rate and scales to 192 TB with a SAS expansion chassis.
Nexenta releases software for management of scale-out storage environments
Nexenta Systems Inc. launched Namespace Cluster, which allows users to connect thousands of nodes to work together as one file system. Namespace Cluster runs with the vendor’s NexentaStor 3.1 open source unified storage software, which adds new features such as metro and stretch cluster capabilities, and asynchronous replication
NetEx makes WAN optimization free for EqualLogic
NetEx is offering two free one-year subscriptions of its 2 Mbps HyperIP WAN Optimization virtual appliance for Dell EqualLogic iSCSI SAN customers who replicate data over the WAN. EqualLogic PS array customers can download the virtual appliance from the NetEx website.
QStar rolls out disk archiving software
QStar Technologies Inc. has launched QStar Retention Manager for Disk software for creating archives up to 16 TB. Retention Manager for Disk uses free spaces on disk to create an archive, and lets customers set policies per data set for retention periods. It also supports WORM to make archived files read-only and to prevent accidental deletion. Data sets within the archive can be shared using CIFS or NFS.
Astute Networks expands executive team
Bladed storage startup Astute Networks Inc. has hired Steven Houck as senior vice president of worldwide sales and Jay Kramer as vice president of worldwide marketing. Both executives will report directly to CEO Steve Topper.
Zerto comes out with virtual machine replication
Zerto came out of stealth with software to replicate virtual machines for disaster recovery. Zerto’s software is in beta. The company was founded by brothers Ziv Kedem and Oded Kedem, who also founded Kashya (which was acquired by EMC). Kashya technology is used for EMC’s RecoverPoint replication software.
Kodak gives Avere on-site support
Kodak Service and Support will supply on-site support for Avere Systems FXT Series NAS appliances. FXT systems accelerate NAS devices.
SDSC uses Fusion-io for bioinformatics research
The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), a research unit of UC San Diego, is using Fusion-io’s ioMemory technology for data-intensive computing initiatives. SDSC uses Fusion-io Protein Data Bank (PDB) research, reducing the time of conducting MySQL database queries from 30 minutes to three minutes.
Egnyte adds file sharing plug-in
