Skytap Now Available Through Google Apps Marketplace

SEATTLE, WASH. – March 9, 2010 – Skytap Inc., today announced it has added the Skytap Cloud™ to the Google Apps Marketplace™, Google’s recently launched online storefront for Google Apps™ products and services. Skytap enables organizations to deploy enterprise applications unchanged in the cloud and collaborate securely with global teams. Using the Skytap Cloud, customers can reduce total cost by up to 70 percent while enforcing corporate security and policies for cloud environments. Through this integration, Google Apps customers or any user with a Google Account can use their existing Google credentials as a single sign-on mechanism, and access their Skytap Cloud environments within the context of Google Apps.

“More enterprises are relying on Skytap as a preferred solution to create hybrid clouds based on our ability to support existing application workloads in the cloud for development, test, migration, training and demonstration purposes,” said Sundar Raghavan, chief product and marketing officer at Skytap, Inc. “We share Google’s vision of providing a greater, end-to-end experience to customers in the cloud for all applications through open standards. With our OpenID integration we are bringing the power of the Skytap Cloud to Google Apps users.”

With this integration, functional users such as IT developers and testers, trainers and sales professionals using Google Apps can now purchase Skytap from the Google Apps Marketplace. Once they subscribe, customers can use Google Account™ credentials to automatically access the Skytap Cloud from universal navigation within Google Apps.

By using Skytap and Google Apps together, a sales engineer can instantly toggle between an enterprise application demo running in the Skytap Cloud to a Google Calendar application that contains necessary information to complete a task. Application developers and testers can move enterprise resource (ERP) applications to the Skytap Cloud without any code changes, migrate to a newer version, create application snapshots, maintain project milestones in Google Calendar™ and multi-task between Skytap and Google Docs™ to de-bug, track, take notes and collaborate with business analysts. Training Managers can use Google Apps to create a learning portal and provide access to a Skytap Cloud training environment for enterprise applications, while shifting between applications like Google Calendar which can be used for scheduling.

Skytap was the first cloud vendor to enable ‘on-demand virtual data centers’ for ad-hoc IT requirements such as application development, ERP testing, consulting and training. These ad hoc use cases constantly compete for resources and consume 30 percent or more of a typical IT infrastructure. Additionally, they are costly to provision and manage, and often underutilized once deployed. With Skytap, companies can securely scale their enterprise infrastructure, enabling applications to run unchanged across internal and external cloud resources. This provides users with self-service access to external cloud resources and reduces costs through a ‘pay-as-you-go’ model while adhering to corporate policies and control.

“We are very excited to have Skytap in the Google Apps Marketplace,” says Scott McMullan, Google Apps Partner Lead for Google Enterprise. “Through the Google Apps Marketplace, software vendors like Skytap are helping us build a rich ecosystem of integrated apps that work seamlessly with Google Apps, allowing IT administrators to leverage the benefits of cloud computing and extend Google Apps to meet more of their business needs. We are happy to offer Skytap to the millions of Google Apps users who have embraced the cloud.”

The Google Apps Marketplace makes it easy for more than two million Google Apps customers to discover, purchase and deploy integrated business applications and related professional services. By integrating with user account and application data stored in Google Apps, these cloud applications provide a simpler user experience, increase business efficiency, and reduce administrative overhead.
