The Next Evolution of B2B Content: Welcome to the New OpenView Labs

March 27, 2015

In 2007 we launched the OpenView Labs website that would serve as a portal for actionable tips, ideas, and insight that help software companies close deals faster, hire better talent, and build something extraordinary. In short, our belief was — and continues to be — that theories are nice. But proven tactics are better.

Nearly eight years later, the OpenView Labs mission remains unchanged. What is changing, however, is how we deliver on that mission.

If you’ve relied on OpenView Labs for relevant, actionable content over the years, I’m sure you’ve noticed that the website looks a little bit different. Okay, a lot different. That’s because, over the last several months, we’ve been working closely with the fantastic teams at NorthPoint Digital and WhatArmy to build an entirely new OpenView Labs experience. Today, we’re absolutely thrilled to unveil it publicly.

Why the Overhaul?

As you look through this new site, you’ll notice some significant changes to the way we organize and deliver content. These changes were largely driven and influenced by five key user experience objectives:

  1. Better flow to content after creation.
  2. Clearer line-of-sight into content authors and contributors
  3. Easier-to-access categories and sub-categories
  4. More responsive design
  5. Improved site search to make finding content easier

This website re-design will allow us to provide a world-class experience for the more than 100,000 entrepreneurs, executives, and managers who visit our site every month, and enable us to keep exploring new ways to help our community to learn and grow.

What to Expect from this Site (and How to Navigate It)

For those of you who might be new to this site, OpenView Labs is much more than an editorial site. We’re a community of practitioners, consultants, thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and industry experts who collectively strive to help B2B expansion-stage software companies:

  • Create better products
  • Target the right customers
  • Execute effective sales and marketing campaigns
  • Recruit the best talent
  • Design exit strategies
  • Cultivate customer success
  • Work faster and more efficiently

To do that, we regularly publish bylined articles, videos, eBooks, infographics, guides, research reports, and more.

For those of you who are frequent OpenView Labs visitors, we think you’ll find this new site delivers the same level of content quality you’ve come to expect — but in a much cleaner, more dynamic package. For instance, content and category navigation is now much easier thanks to the dark blue navigation at the top and left of the page. When you click on any of the major categories, it will open a breakout list of different sub-categories. On your phone, you will get a similar breakout by clicking on the list-like icon in the top left corner of the screen.

Also, it’s now easier than ever to explore OpenView’s vast library of ebooks, infographics, reports, templates, and guides. Just click on the “Resources” section in the menu navigation and you’ll find all the tools and assets you need to make meaningful changes in your organization.

Where Do We Go From Here?

Beyond the aesthetic changes, the OpenView team will be publishing more frequently than before and we plan to expand the site’s categories to cover everything from M&A to marketing channel planning and more. That being said, every piece of content we produce will be crafted with OpenView Labs’ founding principles in mind. If an article, video, case study, or eBook won’t help a B2B business grow more effectively and efficiently, then we won’t waste your time (or ours) with it.

With all of that explaining out of the way, we invite you dive right in to the homepage, or check out specific content categories that pique your interest.

Haven’t explored our author section? Give it a look. Doing so will help you better understand who we are and why we exist. Have a marketing itch you need to scratch? Click on our marketing tools and trends section to see if there’s something there that could save your business precious time or money. Haven’t implemented Scrum? Click on the “About” section to see if the Agile methodology could help your company achieve greater project focus, clarity, and transparency.

No matter where you start, we hope you enjoy the re-design. From here on out, it will be easier than ever to tap into the collective brilliance of other founders, thought leaders, investment teams, managers, sales experts, creatives, and more. That’s a very good thing for the B2B software world as a whole — and we’re incredibly proud to offer it to you.
