This is a part of a series that was created to help you get the practice of corporate blogging built into your company. This series will walk through the process, necessary roles, in addition to guides for each role to help your company get started quickly. The following several posts make up a quick start guide for the blogging administrator.

Choosing your blog’s target keywords is one of your most important responsibilities. After all, the better the words/phrases that you choose, the greater your search engine traffic will be.

Consider these three factors when selecting your keywords:

  • Relevance. How much does this keyword have to do with your business? Can you imagine your target personas searching for this exact word or phrase on a search engine?
  • Popularity. How often is this keyword being searched for? The more searches daily/weekly/monthly, the better!
  • Competition. Using tools like Google AdWords and a general Google search, you should be able to determine how competitive a keyword is. The more competitive it is, the worse the chance that your business will be able to win that search result (i.e., get on the first page), particularly because your blog is just starting off.
