Don’t Lose Your Balance

January 13, 2010

I read an article recently on Forbes.com that really helped me put things in perspective. Within our day to day tasks it’s easy to feel like we are often being pulled in many different directions. Multi-tasking is part of everyday life and finding a healthy balance between work and obligations outside of work can be quite a challenge to not feel overwhelmed. With emails to respond to, meetings to attend, and staying connected with our friends and family, it’s definitely a case of the candle burning from both ends. If you don’t balance that candle appropriately, it will burn out quicker and produce less light. A lot of management teams have implemented the scrum methodology to help their organizations and employees prioritize workflow as it comes in. We use this same methodology at OpenView, and it has helped us have more visibility within our team, and has also improved efficiency. One of our company values is to focus on the few things that matter, which is also related to this type of thinking and planning. It’s good to flush this information through our system from time to time, so I’d highly recommend reading this article if you have a moment.
