Today at the Google I/O the company that is slowly taking over the world with their various business growth strategies made an announcement: Google TV. What is it? Well, their slogan is “TV meets web. Web meets TV”. Not that Google is the first, as Apple TV has had pretty good competitive positioning in this market, but the unveiling of Google TV looks pretty solid!

The idea behind Google TV and their product and development team is essentially a way to merge both the best of the web with the best of your shiny new TV without compromising on either one of them. Best of all, since Google TV will be powered by Android, you can use your Android powered devices to speak to and interact with the TV as a whole.

Google’s thoughts on all of this:

  • With Google TV, you’ll spend less time finding, more time watching
  • We’ll also show you more ways to personalize content
  • We’ll make existing TV much more interesting
