How to get people to read my blog

November 19, 2009

With so much content out there, why is reading my blog any better than reading anything else, or Wikipedia for that matter? That’s a rhetorical question.

There is a young entrepreneur named Neil Patel out there who has his own blog and I’ve read through a lot of his posts as he has some good insight for other aspiring entrepreneurs. I saw the following blog and thought it was relevant, not just for me, but for any bloggers out there, especially ones that are looking to extend their inbound marketing or content marketing strategy (shameless keyword plug).

One of the points he makes is about differentiating oneself from others. His specific hook is he responds to 99% of the comments/emails he receives from a particular blog post. I find this particularly powerful; if someone takes the time to read my blog, post his or her comments, it would be lost opportunity for personal marketing (or whatever you are pushing) to not respond in kind.

At the end of the day there is a lot of clutter on the web and it is easy to get lost in blog boredom from the reader’s perspective. My advice is to follow Neil’s advice, get creative and give your readers something that no one else gives them.

So what’s my hook? …I’m still working on it.
