How to Podcast: Part 4 – iTunes Feed
December 6, 2010
Now that you are ready to post your podcast and start driving website traffic, it is vital to take one extra step to ensure your podcast can be easily consumed by your audience.
I will admit I was a bit tardy to the party on this one and I am creating my iTunes feed for Labcast as I write this! My thought was that I wanted to develop the content before creating the distribution method (especially because all of our podcasts are live on the OpenView Labs website). But now that I did some more research, I discovered I was wrong. According to Ray from The Podcasters Studio, it is important to submit your request to iTunes early because it can take some time to get approved…Oops!
So, let’s not waste any more time! Here is the step by step breakdown of how to create an iTunes feed for your podcast.
1) Make sure your file is iTunes friendly:
Easy enough… save your file in one of the following formats: .m4a, .mp3, .mov, .mp4, .m4v, and .pdf.
2) Head to iTunes:
Pull up the iTunes store and click “Podcast”, then select “submit a podcast”
3) Supply the RSS information:
Supply your RSS information and the iTunes store will do the rest. It will auto-populate what it can and you can then fill in the gaps on the next step.
4) Create a summary:
If you already have a summary in your RSS feed it will likely be pulled in. If you don’t have a summary, now is the time to create one.
5) Submit and wait for approval:
Well, that was REALLY easy! Now that it is broken down, be sure to follow The Podcasters Studio’s advice and submit your podcast to iTunes early! Happy Podcasting! Enjoy this new arm of your online marketing strategy!
