I can read Chinese, Russian, German… Google Chrome 4.1

March 18, 2010

Yesterday, March 17th, Google released the stable update 4.1 for its Chrome web browser, and along with a few small tweaks and bug fixes it also added a BIG COOL new feature – AUTO TRANSLATION. What this does is, when you land on a site that is in a foreign language, the auto translation in Chrome 4.1 immediately recognizes it and asks you for permission to translate the text to the default Chrome browser language.

Of course, those who have used online translation services know that in many cases a lot of the meaning can be lost in translation, but regardless, I find this feature awesome. It allowed me to translate and read the content on Chinese, Russian, German, and Spanish sites and get a pretty good general idea of what they had posted. Although Google already had the translation technology integrated into their search engine, integrating this technology with their browser makes it so much more convenient and seamless for the Chrome users.
I can’t wait to show this new feature to my Mom, who used to complain that she can never understand my blogs because they are in English.
