Earlier this month, Thompsons Reuters along with the National Venture Capital Association released the Q2 2010 IPO and M&A statistics for companies that have raised venture funding. During the second quarter of 2010, 17 companies backed by venture capital investment had their initial public offering. This is the highest number of IPOs for a quarter since the Q4 of 2007. Nine of the 17 IPOs were in the IT sector and 4 were in the Life and Sciences sector.
The release also reported that 92 M&A deals provided exits for companies backed by venture capital finding, during Q2 2010. This was less than the 119 M&A transactions in Q1, but was better than the average M&A deals per quarter in 2008 and 2009.
