Interesting Venture Capital Statistics

October 19, 2009

This is some statistics that I came across while digging in “Venture Capital Funds” blogs and stumbled upon an article by John Edwards:
Out of every 100 businesses that are looking to raise venture capital financing, only 10 are seriously considered, and only 1 of them gets the venture capital financing.
Between 1990 and 2000, out of the 11,000 venture capital backed companies, 14% went for an IPO, 33% were acquired, 33% remained private, and 18% failed. Roughly, about the half of the businesses made it to an exit.
To put this in another prospective, if you have a business that falls into the 0.5%, you have the opportunity to reach a beneficial for you exit. However, it is a smart idea to consider a venture capital investment not just from any venture capital firm out there, but from one that would provide you with not only cash, but also with business value added.
