“Justin, the Trees are Lighting!”

April 5, 2010

This weekend I was driving to Boston to meet some friends at Sonsie. I was trying to admire the gorgeous weather and scenery around the Frog Pond but was getting too frustrated with my new Garmin, opening my sun roof, sipping coffee, following my GPS on my phone as well as talking on the phone in my headphones. I suddenly burst out “It is so beautiful out and all the trees are lighting!!” to which my boyfriend laughed and promptly replied “Jill, the trees are lighting?” I stopped to think about what I meant, and after about 30 seconds finally realized that I meant to say the trees are BLOOMING.

Working at one of the top venture capital firms in Boston and exclusively targeting expansion stage software and technology companies, I am constantly thinking, eating and breathing technology. Finally Q1 has ended and it seems that nature and technology are finally very aligned.

Green and Clean Technology companies have been dominating the venture capital market and in Q1 2010 a total of $19B has been poured into them. This is an 83% total increase from 2009 and a 79% increase just over Q4. Nature and science have always gone hand in hand, but now nature and technology are coming together with green transportation and energy efficiency being in the lead.

Guess I am not the only one mixing up and combining the two in my head!
