On-line Golf Game Company Tries to Win the Golf Fans after Venture Funding

March 27, 2010

On March 17th, San Francisco-based World Golf Tour (WGT) announced that it raised $10 million in a Series C round of venture capital investment. The venture funding was led by the Japanese firm JAFCO Ventures. Along with that announcement, Venture Beat reported that the company secured exclusive long term partnership with the US Golf Association. The company provides an online golf game that allows users to experience numerous golf courses that represent exact virtual replicas of the real locations. The company looks at its product as social golf simulator, rather than a game that allows group of users to take numerous practice shots at the golf courses and communicate with each other at the same time. Nevertheless, the company views the EA’s Tiger Woods Online game as their primary competition and focuses its efforts to challenge their current Online Golf dominance. Most probably the company will use the raised capital for the enhancement of their product and development of the Facebook Golf game application. The expectation is that the application will be a great awareness creator.
