Pixar’s Ed Catmull Looks at how Big Crises Develop

March 30, 2011

By this point, it’s safe to say that Pixar has achieved fame on a grand scale.

Before they achieved this level of success, however, they were a small startup looking to differentiate themselves from the competition. Their climb to the top wasn’t a result of what they did, as much as it was about how they did it. Pixar’s executive staff and management teams had an impeccable sense of conflict resolution. Issues never boiled over at Pixar.

A large-scale problem that developed over time  – stemming from numerous smaller problems – is the undoing of most small companies. While Pixar had these smaller problems, they never let them spiral into larger, unyielding ones.

The company put the quality of life of the employees before their own business growth strategies. Ultimately, this kept everybody happy. As countless cases have proven before, a pleased corporate culture is always profitable. For more information on Pixar’s conflict resolution strategy, watch the video featuring Ed Catmull.
