Rent the Runway? You can do it!

March 27, 2010

If you have ever dreamed of wearing expensive designer clothes but can’t afford it, there is solution for you. It is called Rent the Runway and it is the high end fashion clothes version of Netflix. All you have to do is sign on the company’s website and find the dress you like. For a fee that ranges between $50 and $200 or 10% of the retail price, you can rent the gown of your dream for four days. You will then promptly receive it in two sizes (just in case) with a return shipping label. I would personally never rent any kind of clothes unless it is a tux and the occasion calls for it, but then again, I am not a girl. The company must be picking up some speed since the SEC filings of February 25th show a $15 million venture capital investment. However, the SEC filings fail to disclose the name of the latest venture capital investor. A previous transaction shows a $1.5 million of venture funding but yet again omits its name. Speculations point to Bain Capital, as New York Times reported the venture capital firm to be the one behind the seed financing of the start-up.
