“Socialytic” apps – 2010 software star!

December 24, 2009

This morning, as any good global venture capital Analyst would do, I was researching what the next “big thing” in 2010 will be. I came across an interesting article about “socialytic” business apps. These are applications are essentially social media analytics tools, “listening” to unstructured data and making sense of it.

For example, one of my better prospects is working with the largest producer of packaged bacon. With its tool, the company was “listening” to what people were talking about in regards to pre-packaged bacon, and realized there were a lot of complaints about how gross it was to have to re-open the bacon package to get more pieces out (so touching the slimy raw bacon). Since this was the overwhelming complaint, the company decided to come out with new packaging, and individually wrap slices inside the packages, eliminating the previous concern.

Today, there are many pretty interesting uses for this application such as where to place ads, what people are talking about (new pain points), product development, who is really using your product and how, marketing, etc. Fingers crossed this is a big market because I think it is so interesting!
