Why Software Companies Need to Adopt a Services Mindset
December 9, 2013
Think your software company’s only responsibility is to build a product and sell it to the end user? Think again.
As more technology businesses begin to adopt a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, AKF Partners co-founders Marty Abbott and Mike Fisher say those companies must also undergo a significant product mindset shift.
As Fisher explains in the video below, the best software companies are no longer selling just a product to their customers — they’re also selling a service. So, rather than viewing your business as a manufacturer of that product, Fisher says you need to begin adopting a services mindset that, in many ways, mimics the commitment of a municipal utility. After all, an electric utility’s customers don’t just expect it to produce electricity, Fisher says. They also expect that electricity to be delivered in a fast and reliable manner.
