Succeeding in the Business World
March 22, 2010
My co-worker, Devon Warwick, wrote a blog last week focusing on gender equality. She referenced Lois Frankel’s book, Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office in which Frankel presents that there are certain ingrained habits women have which may be self-defeating in the workplace. While Frankels argument is aimed at women, and Devon’s blog focused on women’s equality in the workplace, Frankel’s suggestions listed in Devon’s blog offers pertinent information for men as well as women. When it comes to succeeding in the business world we must learn to help ourselves.
Frankels key suggestions are relevant for men as well as women include:
- Don’t ask permission – inform others of your intentions
- Review voicemail messages after you leave them to ensure they’re crisp and clear
- Count to three before answering a question – even if the answer is on the tip of your tongue
- Avoid couching your opinions in the form of questions
- Develop a personal marketing plan
From venture capital firms to entrepreneurs looking for investors, these small suggestions can significantly help empower individuals.
