Time to check, reflect and set!

March 26, 2010

Q1 is almost over and its about that time to check and reflect on what you have achieved relative to the goals you have set for your company and each underlying group, in addition to set your goals for Q2. We began the process this week at OpenView Venture Partners by our outbound team and operational support teams sitting down individually to do the following:

  • review the results that have been achieved thus far for the quarter
  • review any chronic impediments that were plaguing for the quarter
  • discuss any key learnings and upcoming adjustments that are essential for next quarter
  • commit to goals that need to be achieved for next quarter that align with the team’s annual goals

Next week our senior team will be sitting down to review the results by each group and commit to the goals being set for the next quarter. Subsequent to that, the entire firm will get together and each group will present this set of data to the entire organization so there is firm-wide commitment and clarity in regards to the direction we are heading. In addition to this, we will be reaffirming our firm aspirations through a pop quiz and will be finishing off the day with a fun firm event.

Getting into a rhythm where you are doing something similar to the above is key as you are piloting the ship of an expansion stage software company. Constant checking and reflecting will help you understand where you are at relative to completing goals you committed to, understand impediments that are in the way of achieving your goals (in addition to understanding leverage points that will help you blast past your goals) and be better educated on setting goals for the next interval.
