Tracing the Origins of Good Ideas through Time, Society
April 27, 2011
If we knew exactly where good ideas came from, we would go to that location every time we needed one.
And eventually, that flush would dry up quickly. But there isn’t a well of good ideas hidden away somewhere. There is only inspiration, which has guided people toward realizing good ideas since the dawn of time. Today, we no longer marvel at fire as if it is gilded in divinity. Good ideas, however, are still deeply valued. So where does our society go when it needs to innovate?
Like your company strategy, great ideas need time to incubate and grow in size and scale. The makings of a great idea are usually very specific, but the result is usually more generalized and spanning. And if you’re looking to nurture an idea, you will need time and dedication.
Connectivity is also improving the number of opportunities and channels we have to create ideas. We can draw inspiration from other ideas much more readily today. Technology trends have supported this idea; innovation, at least in this regard, is only increasing. For more information on this subject, watch the video featuring Steven Johnson.
