Value, Complexity and a Common Product Management Snafu

August 18, 2011

When it comes to product management, there are common pitfalls that plague every company. These can easily be identified when plotting touch points on a value versus complexity graph, says Dr. Jim Anderson of Blue Elephant Consulting in this video. The greater the value, the more incentive a company has to follow up on that maneuver.

Anderson notes that if you were to look at a product management chart in four quadrants, you will be left with a combination of high value, low value, high complexity and low complexity. The most desirable of these would be a high value and low complexity pairing. The least desirable is low value and high complexity. These sorts of undertakings should be avoided at all costs, he says.
