What Does It Take to Be an Entrepreneur?

September 26, 2011

Some people are entrepreneurs and don’t know it, while other people think they’re entrepreneurs and aren’t.

That’s the message that Randy Komisar of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers delivers in this short video. His blunt assessment of the culture cuts through a lot of misunderstanding and ambiguity on the topic of entrepreneur personalities. When it comes to the traits that comprise the average entrepreneur, Komisar says that they must be understanding of risk, willing to gamble, able to adapt and open to outside suggestions.

None of these characteristics alone represent an entrepreneurial spirit, either. And that can be a difficult pill to swallow because another large component of Komisar’s message is that entrepreneurial traits are mostly unteachable.
