5 B2B Social Media Resolutions We Should All Make in 2011

December 29, 2010

I’m happy that 2010 was a great year for me. I joined the OpenView Venture Partners team and I learned more than I ever thought possible in a short period of time. Now that 2010 is winding down, I would like to share some goals I feel all B2B Social Media marketers should keep in mind in the new year:

1) In 2011 I will not spam!

Seems simple, but at times even the best forget that it’s all about connecting and conversing. Before writing each post, we must ask ourselves “Does this apply to/benefit my audience?”

2) In 2011 I will show personality!

It is so easy to become a link spewing machine–but please resist! Be sure to let the brand’s personality shine through! Share photos, stories and videos of your team. Have fun — no one will fault you for that.

3) In 2011 I will think of others!

While at times it seems that your branding goals and online marketing strategy are more important than nearly anything else…always remember, this is not the case. Share some love with other marketers, re-tweet relevant content that is not your own and be sure to leave comments behind when you enjoy the work of others.

4) In 2011 I will push myself!

We all have our comfort areas, whether it is written content, audio, video, etc. Push yourself out of your comfort zone next year. If you prefer writing, challenge yourself to record a video. If you prefer audio, dare yourself to write a compelling series.

5) In 2011 I will share my expertise!

Admit it — sometimes it can feel like you are going in alone. This doesn’t have to be the case! Share your successes, trials and failures on your blog to help others learn and to seek advice from the community. Seek out expertise and be sure to share your own.

Cheers, fellow marketers! Let’s make 2011 great!
