A portfolio company capitalizing on the Social Media-obsessed market

One of OpenView’s portfolio companies, Reality Digital, will be releasing some pretty amazing campaigns in the upcoming week. Stay tuned to my blog, and I will be releasing the links to these campaigns as they roll out – they are top secret for now! Reality Digital is an expansion stage company that received Series B venture capital funding from OpenView in 2008. Having dedicated a great deal of sales and marketing support to Reality Digital in 2009, I am very excited to see so many major brands signing on to become customers.

If you haven’t heard of social media, then I am pretty sure that you have been living under a rock for the last year. Reality Digital is capitalizing on this social media craze by targeting large brands that are looking to launch interactive contests and/or campaigns. Their offering is a white label social media SaaS that has advanced UGC (user generated content) functionalities and rich media (such as HD video) capabilities.

Up until a year ago, most businesses who were engaging in social media were hosting communities or contests on their main website. Now? Not a chance. Facebook and Youtube are the new hubs for major brands’ campaigns. The idea: engage with your consumers in a community that they are familiar with…. Don’t make them have to come to your company’s site. It just won’t work.
