The Olympic Games are intended to be a platform for sporting competition, but on occasion, they become much more symbolic. The story of runners Derartu Tulu and Elana Meyer is one such extraordinary example. Tulu, a black Ethiopian, and Meyer, a white South African, held hands and shared Tulu’s victory lap following the Ethiopian’s 10,000-meter race win.
