OpenView Leads $20M Series C in JumpCloud

December 1, 2017

We are excited to welcome JumpCloud, the first Directory-as-a-Service, into the OpenView family after leading their $20M Series C. JumpCloud allows organizations to connect every employee to the applications, systems, networks, and data they need from a single point of control. It’s Active Directory and LDAP re-imagined for today’s connected world, providing organizations of all sizes a new level of efficiency, flexibility, scalability, and security. JumpCloud will use the new funding to continue to build out their team in Colorado, with plans to hire 70 people in the next year including 50 technical roles.

The one constant in the last two decades of IT management has been increasing complexity. The democratization of procurement has reached the point where individuals in the same company, let alone on the same team, can select different software and hardware to meet their unique needs. With best of breed SaaS applications, public cloud infrastructure, Macs, and personal mobile devices permeating the workplace, at times it can be hard to remember that we came from a world where every business was a homogeneous Microsoft environment. And yet, the vast majority of organizations still rely on a directory that assumes that every business still is.

This is broken. Not in the symbolic sense often used by innovators, but literally broken. The software that is supposed to be the hub of authentication and authorization, connecting users with the systems and data they need, doesn’t speak the same language as the systems they are using.

That’s where JumpCloud comes in. By re-imagining how a directory should work in the world of consumerized IT and open platforms rather than centralized procurement and walled gardens, every employee can access the resources they need while freeing IT professionals from tedious tasks like manually creating, managing and mapping individual user accounts. Instead, JumpCloud handles all of this seamlessly from one interface. Gone are the days of arduous onboarding or departing employees walking off with sensitive data or lingering access.

At OpenView, we strive to partner with companies that are improving people’s working lives. JumpCloud is one of the few that can improve the experience of everyone who leverages technology for work, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Rajat Bhargava, Co-Founder and CEO, and the entire JumpCloud team on their mission to connect people to what they need, when they need it.
