Our Newest Recruit: Katelyn LaGarde

I recently joined OpenView as a Talent Specialist where I’m responsible for recruitment for both the firm and its portfolio companies. Here’s a little bit about me and what you can expect to see with my blog.

About me

I think it’s easiest to describe myself in two words: passionate and competitive. It doesn’t matter if it’s something important like my work or something small like learning to play pool, I put everything I have into it (I attribute this to growing up with two brothers and playing far too much street hockey).
I found my passion in recruiting and I’m so excited to bring that to the OpenView team.

What excited you about working at OpenView?

I’m excited to find top talent for such amazing and innovative portfolio companies. OpenView invests in companies at such a critical stage where every hire really does make a big difference. I’m thrilled not only to find the best people for these companies, but to be able to offer such exciting opportunities to candidates, as well!

Why recruiting?

I’ve been really lucky in that I’ve been happy at pretty much every stage of my career thus far. Sure, we all get bumps and bruises along the way, but I genuinely believe that since the majority of our time is spent either at work or thinking about work we should enjoy and find fulfillment in it.
With recruiting, I get to accomplish both of those things, simultaneously adding value to companies while knowing I can make an impact on a candidate’s day-to-day life, as well.

What’s this blog all about?

So, what will you find on my blog? Likely a lot of how-to’s and how to not’s. Working on both the agency and corporate side of recruiting, I’ve seen so many things go right and so many more things go wrong in the hiring process. It’s so important for companies to understand things from the candidate and employee perspective, and I hope to bring a lot of that to the forefront.

Anything else?

Recruiting isn’t the only thing I’m passionate about. I love spending time in the kitchen cooking up something new. While my cookbook collection may be getting slightly out of hand, I’ll dine out in Boston at every possible chance. (Giulia in Cambridge in my current favorite.)
I have also loved (and always will love) travel. China is still, to this day, the most awe-inspiring place I’ve been (the chicken heart I unknowingly ate from a Shanghai street cart wasn’t bad either!).
