Social Media Marketing: Don’t Try to Fake It!
December 29, 2011
Is it possible to be inauthentic in your social media efforts? Thomas Obrey of PixelMEDIA doesn’t think so.
In the end, Obrey explains, you’re going to be yourself no matter what. Regardless of what’s influenced you, who you’re trying to emulate or the image you’re trying to exude, you’re still being yourself. Authenticity is a word that’s often haphazardly thrown around in the social media realm. It means a lot of things without saying much.
To Obrey and proponents of social media openness, authenticity is about breaking down barriers and starting up conversations without topical constraints. There shouldn’t be too much separation between people and personalities. Obrey, a father, doesn’t hide this side of himself on social media. And that’s what being authentic is about, although he does admit to dreading the word.
