Why SaaS makes sense

November 6, 2009

In today’s high tech world, everyone is looking to get the most bang for their buck. One of the best ways for small to mid-sized businesses to do this is by utilizing SaaS based services. Saas (Software as a Service) provides many essential IT services, but without the sometimes large expense of procuring those services in-house. Take Data Backup’s for example, to establish and internal data backup solution will require a fair amount of time and money. There’s hardware and software to be purchased that can quickly go into the multiple thousands of dollars. There is also the skill set needed by the IT staff to manage the backups.

By utilizing a SaaS based data backup and recovery solution, the time, money and skills are significantly reduced. Openview Venture Partners has invested in a company named Intronis (http://intronis.com) that provides these services at a fraction of what it would cost for an in-house solution. There is the added benefit with this solution that all of your data is backed up off site so that if anything happens to your office, such as a fire, your data is still safe.

The Intronis process is very simple and straight forward. You setup your account, download a small footprint client on your computers, set the schedule and then let it run. Automated messages notify you of the status of your backups, including how much data you have backed up. In the event you need to restore, the process is just as easy. We utilize the Intronis solution for backing up all onsite data at Openview and it has worked without issue since we first installed it.
