Dev is an entrepreneur, operator, and investor who recently joined MongoDB as the company’s CEO. He was previously Managing Director at OpenView and, prior to that, a Venture Partner at Greylock Partners, where he got exposed to the inner workings of the venture capital business. Earlier, he was the President of BMC Software, where he was responsible for a business with $1.4 billion in annual revenue and over 4,000 employees. During his tenure at BMC, Dev and his team radically transformed a mature software business to deliver superior financial results that far outperformed its competitors. Previously, Dev was the co-founder and CEO of BladeLogic, one of the fastest growing enterprise software companies of the last decade. After co-founding the business in 2001, he went on to take the company public in 2007, and then sold it to BMC in 2008 for approximately $900 million.
Earlier in his career Dev was a pioneer in cloud computing. He co-founded and served as the CEO of Applica, one of the first venture-backed cloud companies. He eventually merged the business with Breakaway Solutions and the combined company went public in 1999. Dev began his professional career at large and growth-stage telecom companies developing advanced broadband services for large enterprise customers.
Dev received a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Rutgers University, was awarded the Medal of Excellence, and was recognized by the School of Engineering as its 2010 Alumnus of the Year.
